Present Simple Passive Voice

Repetitive tasks in daily life. That is, every moment, every day, every week, every month or every year. We describe them as follows. I go to Saudi Arabia every year. They call me every day. They tease me again and again. They listen to me attentively etc. When they say all the phrases in a different way i.e. the working ‘faal’ is temporarily removed from the phrase. For example, I am teased. In this phrase, the person who harasses is omitted. I get called. Food is cooked. Food is wasted. It is currently unknown who does it. Such phrases will be translated on the structure given below.

 

Object + is/am/are + Verb (3rd form) + by + Subject

 

• Food is wasted [by the girl – optional].
• Food is cooked.
• Kids are told about the exams.
• Computer is repaired.
• English is learnt.
• Cartoons are watched.
• Posts are shared.
• Application is accepted.
• Urdu is taught.
• Money is distributed.
• Job is given.

Simple sentences of Present Indefinite/Simple tense looks like this: Ali gives

job. She distributes money. The lady cooks food. She invites the friends. Kids watch cartoons. 

Past Simple Passive Voice

Actions that happened in the past are described simply. That is, I bought a car. When did you buy it? A month ago, a year ago etc. If self is removed from the same action/verb and the phrase is made by focusing on the vehicle, then the phrase will be formed like this. ‘The car was bought’.

 

Obj + was/were + verb (3rd form) + by + subject
• The patient was brought to the hospital.
• English was learnt.
• Urdu was taught.
• Ahmed was asked.
• Food was cooked by Hania.
• Job was announced.
• People were warned.
• The house was cleaned.
• Windows were washed.

Future Simple Passive Voice

Events that will happen in the future. That means you will go for Eid shopping tomorrow. Someone will send you a message. etc. When the subject is removed from these types of sentences, they will be formed according to the structure given below.

 

Obj + Will Be + Verb (3rd form) + [by + Sub optional]


• She will be tolerated

• The meeting will be held. 
• The matter will be resolved.
• The reasons will be discussed.
• The roads will be decorated.
• The buses will be sold.
• The letter will be posted.

 

Present Continuous Tense Passive Voice

Actions that are ongoing in the present time means that they are going on. They are described as follows. He is currently talking to friends. If the subject is removed from the same phrase or moved to the end of the phrase giving less importance, then this phrase will be formed like this. Talks are being held. Or talking to friends

Obj + is/am/are + verb (3rd form) + [by +Sub optional]

 

• Boys are being asked about their daily routine.
• Fish is being roasted.
• House is being built.
• Shops are being opened.
• Eid is being celebrated.
• Chairs are being bought.
• Decisions are being taken.
• Kids are being punished.

 

Past Continuous Tense Passive Voice

The work that is ongoing in the past means that it is going on continuously. For example, my brother was praying when my mother called. That is, a task was in ‘progress’ at a particular point in time. When the subject of a similar phrase is omitted or moved to the end of the phrase giving less importance, it will be made on the structure given below. For example, prayers were being offered. We do not want to tell who was reading.

Income was being generated.

Companies were being launched.

Lights were being turned on.

Kitchen was being cleaned.

People were being given awareness.

Lecture was being delivered.

Comments were being read.

Salt was being checked.

The house was being sold.

Animals were being slaughtered.

Passive Voice Future Continuous Tense

This structure is not used in everyday life. The structure looks like this. Food must be cooking. Students will be invited. The English would use this structure in the present tense instead of the future tense. Maybe the food is being cooked. Students are being invited tomorrow. That is, the word “tomorrow” changed the phrase to the future. But still the structure is being explained below for the convenience of students.

Object + will be + being + verb (3rd form) + [by Subject – Optional]

 

13. Food will be being eaten tomorrow.
14. She will be being irritated.
15. Voice will be being raised.
16. The matter will be being discussed.
17. The boy will be being given some chocolates.
18. The lady will be being told about her kid.
19. They will be being tolerated.
20. The water will be being wasted.
21. The computer will be being repaired.
22. The man will be being asked about the issue.

Preferable Structure

1. Food is being eaten tomorrow. Or Food will be eaten tomorrow.
2. They are being asked about it in the next meeting. or They will be
asked about it in the next meeting.
3. Computer is being repaired next week. Or Computer will be repaired
next week.

 

Passive Voice Present Perfect Tense

I have been invited to a feast. Or I have been invited to a feast. These phrases indicate the recent completion of a task. But the important thing is that the worker does not exist. We don’t know who is calling the feast. Have a friend or relative, no idea. Such clauses which are missing the subject and are showing the perfect in the present tense should be made on the structure given below.Object + has been/have been + verb (iii) + [by + Subject-optional]

1. I have been invited to the party.
2. They have been suggested some improvement.
3. An email has been received from a friend.
4. A young student has been awarded.
5. Ice cream has been kept in the fridge.
6. Mr. Mubeen has been criticized.
7. Mr. Ahmad has been appreciated.
8. I have not been told about it.
9. You have been asked several times.
10. A story has been modified.

Passive Voice Past Perfect Tense

The completion of a task in the past tense is expressed as follows: Ahmad had already completed the paper in terms of phrases. Or Maria had cooked before the guests arrived. If these two actors i.e. Faal: Maria and Ahmed are removed from the phrases, then these phrases will be arranged like this. The paper was solved ahead of time. We do not know who solved the paper? Or the food was cooked before the guests arrived. It is not even known who cooked the food here! These expressions will be done according to the formula given below.

Object + had been + verb (iii) + [by + Subject-optional]

1. Some improvements had been suggested to me.
2. Mr. Ahmed had been warned.
3. The hospital had been sealed.
4. The meeting had been rescheduled.
5. The internet-software had been installed.
6. The match had been postponed.
7. Mr. Mukarram had been invited by the relatives.
8. The family members had been given permission to attend the
ceremony.
9. The letter had been typed.
10. The offer had been rejected.

Passive Voice Future Perfect Tense

The completion of a task in the future is expressed as: For example, Ali must have bought a car before marriage. Nazia must have completed the housework before time. If Ali and Maria are removed from these phrases, then these phrases will be formed like this. The car must have been purchased before marriage. Or the housework must have been completed ahead of time. Here we do not know who is doing the work? In the same way I will have been deceived, I have been hidden from the person who will deceive.
